Koloko Group needed £1977.48 for their business.
The Koloko group of Petauke has 19 women members. Most of the women are married and have children who attend school and run either a market or a grocery stall. The group has successfully repaid previous loans and are now seeking another loan to top-up their business capital.
Ruth Phiri, aged 52, is one of the members of the group. She is married to a teacher and has four children who are in school. She sells fresh fish and sausage, and runs her business from the busy market in her community. She orders fish from Chipata and sausages from Lusaka.
She will use her share of the group loan to invest in her business and order additional stocks of fish and sausages for her stall. She has plans to also start selling beef as most of her customers ask for it. She has had her business for two years and during this she has experienced a positive change in the livelihood of her family, such as being able to pay school fees as well as open a savings account with a bank where she saves some of her business profits.
