Jaime oliver needed £866.14 for his business.
Jaime Gaona is a smallholder farmer specialising in growing ‘naranjilla’ which is a small fruit native to northwestern South America. Don Jaime has two daughters. Naranjilla is a sub-tropical perennial shrub and he was shown how to plant, grow and harvest the plant by a friend since it is not straightforward. In the beginning he grew just a few hundred square metres but after becoming experienced he now has two hectares. Don Jaime has bought his own smallholding and built a home. He can generally harvest between 120-150 sacks of naranjillas which he sells in the city of Loja. He estimates that his yearly earnings are around $3,600. Don Jaime requested a loan to pay four labourers to help him weed his land and apply fertiliser by hand to each plant.
