Lilia del carmen needed £2519.08 for her business.
Lilia Ramos lives in the small town of Cariamanga in southern Ecuador. She has a market stall where she sells vegetables. Her husband works as a driver for the local council. In the evenings and on weekends he also works raising pigs and has a smallholding. They have five children, the youngest two still live at home. Doña Lilia has been running the market stall for the past 12 years or so. On Sundays, she sells the vegetables, some of which are grown by her husband, at the open market. Prior to obtaining a market stall she used to sell as a street hawker. She has used some of the income she has earned to pay for her children’s education and help build a house. On average she earns a profit of around $400 per month. Doña Lilia requested a loan to buy large display cabinets that can be assembled and dismantled quickly for the open market fairs. In addition, she wants to buy more of the items she sells as well as more relatively more expensive fruits that must be brought from further afield where they are in season.
