Luz magali needed £1679.39 for her business.
Luz Ordoñez and her husband are smallholder farmers. They have five children who are all in school. Her husband raises cattle while Luz raises chickens. She sells eggs on a daily basis and she also keeps some chickens which are sold for their meat every few months. She decided to raise poultry once it became apparent that her husband’s income was insufficient to cover all the household’s expenses. Her parents helped her to begin by giving her the money to buy 30 hens. At present she has around 150 hens and collects around 130 eggs daily. She sells the eggs at the market in the town of Palanda. The main challenges she has are that the price of animal feed fluctuates and the roads to town are difficult, particularly when it rains. She sells each egg for 10 cents and makes a profit of around $200 per month. Doña Luz requested a loan to buy chicks, feed in bulk and also pay for materials and labour to repair the barn where the birds are housed.
