Loan description:
Sophan Brom is 44 years old. She has four children who are aged between 6 and 17 and all of whom are in full time education. Sophan lives with her family in Ek Phnom district, which is in Battambang province. Sophan and her husband have worked as rice farmers for the past 16 years. At the moment, they farm four hectares of land to produce wet season rice which yields about two and a half tonnes per hectare. However, they also have another plot of land on which they produce dry season rice and which yields around three tonnes per hectare. They keep about one and a half tonnes of this rice for their own consumption and sell the remainder to local traders. At home Sophan also grows Chinese turnips on a piece of land which is 1,600 square meters and waits a period of three months before they are ready to be picked and sold on the market. To ensure she can farm on time while her source of funds is limited, Sophan has applied for a loan to enable her to cultivate her dry season rice and grow Chinese turnip successfully by purchasing fertiliser, weed killer, seeds, diesel for their tractor and to help pay for labour costs. This is her second loan with lendwithcare she used her previous loan to buy a small hand tractor.
