The Progress Chikoka group are a group of 15 married women aged between 22 and 64. They live in the Kafue district of Zambia and have 26 children who attend school, as well as caring for school-going orphans. These women run different small scale businesses to help provide their household income, mostly grocery and market stalls. They have requested a loan so that they can provide the daily needs for their families, as well as school fees of their children and orphans. The group is applying for its fourth loan after successfully repaying their previous loans.

One group member, Christine Shakamwanya, is 26 years old and married with two children who both attend school. Christine has a garden where she grows different types of vegetables and sells mostly wholesale to the market of her community. She really enjoys what she does and is currently growing cabbage, for which she is expecting a huge harvest. Christine will use her share of the loan to purchase fertilizer and seeds for other vegetables. She currently employs one man to help with the garden activities, and her husband also helps where needed. She has seen great change in her family due to the profits of her garden business. Christine also aims to continue to grow her customer base as she is now well known for her business. The group will repay their loan over 8 months.
