Prektrob Village, Prek Norin Commune,, Cambodia
Sopheap needed £1666.67 for her business.
Sopheap Ran is 40 years old. She has two children age 10 and 12 years, who are both at school. She grows dry season rice on five hectares of paddy farmland. It takes 90 days to get the rice paddy ready for harvesting. She collects around two tons of crops per hectare to sell on. Like her villagers she also grows green beans on the same land after the rice paddy has been harvested. She gets around 800 kilograms of beans to supply on the market. To get an extra income for her family she also sews clothes.
As well as her rice farming, green bean farming, and sewing clothes, Sopheap also raises four cows at her home. She feeds her cows grass every day. To improve her working capital on her rice farming, Sopheap applied for this loan. She will use the loan money to buy farming products such as fertilisers, pesticide (to stop her crops being destroyed by insects), weed killer, and pay for the ploughing and harvesting costs. A part of the loan will also be used to improve her home. She will buy wood, bricks, cement, zinc and cover the carpentry costs. She will pay back the loan in 24 months time.
