Joel Zhingre is from the city of Loja. He is 21 and and his wife are itinerant traders selling traditional Ecuadorian clothes such as ponchos made from llama wool as well as blouses, shirts and jeans. They sell in the city centre and at weekends travel to other smaller towns in the province to sell.  Additionally, Don Joel works as an assistant in a metal workshop. In the beginning Don Joel just sold underwear because he only had a limited amount of capital and the profit margins were relatively small. He estimates their monthly profit is around $200 from selling the clothes. His wife also studies at university. Don Joel has also established a small shop in his home where he can store his stock and also receive visits from friends, family and neighbours as well. He requested a loan to travel to the northern city of Ambato which is 10-12 hours away by road to buy new stock to sell. Most of the indigenous clothing is sourced from there.

loan added: 26 June 2018
