Loan description:
Mr. Mao Thon is 51 years old. He has been a farmer for over 20 years for supporting the day to day financial needs. He and his wife have a one-hectare farmland where they grow short term rice/paddy. He collects two tons of rice/paddy for sale. Besides his rice farming he has another big farmland (around 10 hectares) on this land he grows maize to sell. He can grow maize twice a year, the maize is ready for harvesting in 90 days’ time. He gets 2 tons of maize per hectare. The middleman buys his crops directly from his farm. Through his farming he creates 10 seasonal jobs. The workers are paid $5 a day for their work.
Apart from his farming business Mao catches fish during the rainy season. He sells the fish and earns around $10 a day, an extra income for his family.
Mao is requesting a loan to use as working capital for his maize farming. He will repay the loan in 36 months’ time. He will invest the money in buying farming products, diesel for tractor and cover the labour costs.
