Luis reinaldo needed £1231.34 for his business.
Luis Iñiguez is a smallholder farmer. He used to work in a ‘panela’ or raw sugar cane factory. However, around 15 years ago he started cultivating maize and other short-cycle crops on land owned by his wife. She works alongside him and also works at the weekends selling fruits in the city of Loja. They have five adult children all of whom are independent. The land they cultivate is under irrigation allowing them to farm all year round. In total they have around one and a half hectares of land. Don Luis has invested in an irrigation pump and from his profits bought another small parcel of land. He requested a loan to buy fifty pounds of maize seeds, fertiliser and pay one labourer to help him plough and prepare the land.
