Hoa Binh, Vietnam
Chieu needed £629.85 for his business.
Mr. Bui Van Chieu is 35 years old, and lives with his wife in Khuan village, in Nam Phong commune of Hoa Binh province. He has two children who attend the local school full time.
His wife works with him on the farm. Their income comes mainly from growing oranges on 1,3 hectares of land and raising chickens and pigs. They sell their products directly to customers at the market.
They began their business nearly 12 years ago, but their income, at$130 a month, is still low compared to the average level of the region.
Mr. Chieu requests a loan of $773 to buy fertiliser to make the soil more productive and enable them to grow good quality oranges in significantly larger quantities. The additional income this would bring would allow them to stabilize their finances and improve their standard of living.
He will pay the loan back in 24 monthly instalments.
