Melchora needed £2354.81 for her business.
Melchora Setosta is from near the town of Bogo in the province of Cebu. She has one son who helps his mother with the shop she runs. Melchora established the business around twenty years ago selling basic foods and snacks such as rice, sugar, flour, biscuits, sweets, cooking oil, powdered soft drinks, as well as cleaning and hygiene items. Her mother also helps when Melchora is away buying stock from the wholesalers. The business is located in the public market and is open from 5 am to 7 pm each day. Five years after she established the shop, Melchora started driving a van to more distant villages where there are few if any shops to sell as well. She drives the van herself. As well as her son she employs two shop assistants. She keeps much of her stock near her home as space in the market is limited. Melchora is a member of our partner organisation Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative and has already accessed and repaid a total of 13 loans over the years, most of the loans are short-term. She requested a new loan in order to purchase more of the items she sells.
