Lucresio needed £2355.63 for his business.
Lucresio Son is married with seven children. Four of the children still live at home with him and his wife Leonila in the village of Tabunan in Cebu province. Lucresio has been a smallholder farmer almost his whole working life. He grows vegetables and spices on land measuring around 2,500 square metres. He mostly grows aubergines and tomatoes. About two years ago, he also started pig farming. Lucresio buys piglets, fattens them over 3-4 months, and then sells them to contacts in the local market. He has bought and sold pigs five times already and has found it to be quite profitable. With profits from his last harvest, he
was able to construct three more pig pens that cost about US$300. The couple makes sure to keep their pig pens clean and dry to avoid
contamination and also that there is enough space for the animals. Lucresio also made a mixture to avoid foul odours from spreading to neighbours. Lucresio was first funded by Lendwithcare in February 2017 and was able to fully repay his loan before his due date. He requested a new loan from our local partner organisation, Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, in order to purchase 21 piglets. The remaining part of the loan will be used to buy animal feed and cover transport costs.
