Kalomo, Zambia, Zambia
Dalitso Group needed £1537.66 for their business.
This is a loan to the Dalitso group, which is based in the Kalomo district of Southern Zambia. They are twelve women in the group aged between 22 and 60 years old. Some members in this group are married while others are single and some widowed. They have children who are in school and they also take care of orphans who are in school too. The total number of dependents is 104 children. These women started their businesses for different reasons, for example some of the women started their business as a way of contributing to the financial needs of their families. After repaying two previous loans, the group is requesting their third loan, which will be used as top up on existing capital.
Mary Simakomba, 59, is a member of this group. She is married and has five children who are in school. She runs a hardware stall selling bicycle spare parts like chains, spokes and ball bearings. She orders these spare parts from the capital, Lusaka. She has had her business for the past twenty years now and during this time the husband has helped with the business. Mary is requesting her share of this loan to order more stock of spokes and ball bearings for her hardware stall. She has plans to build her own shop from the profits that she will make from her business. She also hopes to be able to pay the school fees for her children.
