Maura del rocio needed £797.10 for her business.
Maura del Rocío Guamán is a small-scale farmer and retailer who lives in the small town of Catamayo in the province of Loja in southern Ecuador. She is married to Luis Fernando Castillo. They have four children aged 23, 20, 19 and 16. The elder two are already independent and married. The younger two are in full-time education. Doña Maura has buying and selling vegetables for seven years. She buys them on a wholesale basis to be re-sold on a retail basis on Thursdays and Sundays at the open market fair. She began the business with just one set of scales, a table and an initial capital investment of $50. She considers her business has grown considerably because half of the products she offers at the open market are her own, since she grows them, which has allowed her to widen the profit margins. She is very pleased to have been able to support her husband with the food and clothing expenses but above all, with the education of their children. Her monthly profit is around $250. Doña Maura requested a loan to buy ten 50 kilogram sacks of onions, three sacks of peas, and ten 50 kilogram sacks of potatoes. The loan is repayable over 12 monthly installments.
