Tasen Village, Trang Commune,, Cambodia
Sokun needed £3477.75 for her business.
Mrs. Sokun is 26 years old and she grows maize on five hectares of land. She and her husband harvest the maize twice a year and in a period of around 90 days they can pick crops of about six tonnes per hectare to sell. They need to hire 20 villagers to assist them in picking the maize crops and each of them can earn $5 a day from this working activity. Their farming challenge is the price of their maize crops as if the price is not high enough it can impact on the profit they make from selling the crops. To get a strong working capital for their maize farming then they have requested this 36 month loan in order to purchase some good quality seeds, fertilizer, pesticide, weed killer, pay the ploughing costs of the land (one hectare costs $50) and cover the labour costs for their employees.
