The Thamanga group has a membership of 12 women aged between 20 and 69. They have school going children and take care of school going orphans. These women run small scale businesses in the town of Chipata where they are is based. They run businesses like selling fresh vegetables, salaula (second hand clothes), fish and meat products. This group is requesting for a third loan. These women started their businesses for various reasons like to be able to take children to school and to provide daily needs for the families.
Dorothy Miti 38 years old is a member of this group. She is married and has four children who are in school. She runs a grocery stall selling cooking oil, eggs, salt, sugar, different types of lotions and bathing soap among other things. She started her business five years ago with the aim of improving the living conditions of her family. She is requesting for this loan to order more stocks of cooking oil and tinned fish for her stall. From the profits of her larger sales she hopes to see her business grow big and build a family house for her children.
