Lukamantano needed £1267.39 for their business.
Lukamantano group is based in Kalomo and has a membership of 20 women aged between 30 and 60. The women of this group run small-scale businesses such as market and grocery stalls. They started their businesses for various reasons but primarily to work their way out of poverty. These women have seen significant changes in their businesses and their standard of living through accessing the loans.
34 year old Carol is a member of this group. She is widowed and has four children who are in school. She runs a restaurant in the local market selling nsima (Zambian staple food) with chicken, beef, fish and assorted vegetables. Currently, she employs four people to help her run her business. At the beginning, she had little capital with which to grow her business but now access to loans means she can buy food and other necessities with fewer difficulties for herself and her children. Carol will use this loan to order more stock of ingredients for the restaurant. She hopes that with the profits she can provide a decent shelter for her family and send her children to school as she is the bread winner of her family.
Please note that Zimbabwe is at present going through a severe economic recession and that there is an additional risk that some of the loans might be delayed or defaulted. You can find more information here.
