Mariano salomon needed £852.11 for his business.
Mariano Salomom Erique has worked as a smallholder farmer for the last 20 years or so. He is married to Nelvia Ramirez who helps him with farming duties from time to time and they have three sons aged 17, 10 and 6 and a 12-year-old daughter. All of their children attend school and at weekends help their parents. Don Mariano grows two hectares of maize at Naranjo Dulce an area in a parish known as Lourdes near the small town of Catacocha in southern Ecuador. He is reliant on rainfall. Half of the crop is farmed on his own land and the other half on rented land. He sells the maize every four months leaving him a profit of $1,500. He feels his biggest achievement has been to buy one plot of land to farm even though the legal papers still have to be legalised. Don Mariano requested a loan to buy bags of maize seeds, fertiliser and other farming inputs.
