This is a group loan to the River Side group of Zambia. There are 10 women in this group aged between 23 and 60. Some of these women are married, others are widowed and some are divorced. These women have children who are in school and they also look after orphans who are in school. These women run small scale businesses like market, restaurants and grocery stalls. They started their businesses for different reasons like to be able to pay school fees for their children and provide food for their families. The River Side group has successfully undergone business training and is now ready to take up a first loan to expand their businesses.
Cretildah Hapempela 26 years old is a member of this group. She is married and has two children who are in school. She runs a restaurant selling nsima, rice with chicken, beef, fish and vegetables. She orders her stocks from within the district. She is requesting for this loan to buy chickens, beef and mealie meal for her restaurant. From the profits of her previous loans she has contributed financially to the well-being of her family and this makes her proud.
