Soun Sla Village, Kdol Tahen Commune,, Cambodia
Sophoeurn needed £1196.83 for his business.
Mr. Sophoeurn is 51 years old. He has 7 children, aged between 17 and 29 years old. The youngest is at school. He has been a farmer for over 30 years and at the moment he harvests rice on two hectares of land. He grows wet season rice. By growing this kind of rice he needs to spend around six months in order to collect 2.5 tonnes of crops per hectare to sell. He generally sells his crops directly to his local merchant, who buys from his farm. Aside from his rice farming activity he also farms cassava on around four hectares of land and he can get about 10 tonnes of cassava root per hectare to sell. To make sure he gets enough working capital on his cassava farming he applied for this 24 month loan in order to purchase fertilizer, pesticide, weed killer, diesel for his tractor and to cover the labouring costs (he hires 5 villagers to assist him on chopping the cassava root, and each of them earns about $5 a day from this work).
