Sokun needed £1994.72 for her business.
Mrs. Sokun is 39 years old and she has two children, aged 9 and 14 years old and both of them are in school. At the moment, Mrs Sokun and her husband farm rice on four hectares of land. They grow short term rice, which means they need to wait for the rainy season before they can start growing their rice crops, and they normally produce around 2 tonnes per hectare. Once they have harvested their rice, then they use a part of this land to grow watermelons. She needs to spend around 60 days cultivating the watermelon crops before they are ready to sell. She sells her crops to a middleman, who buys directly from her farm. The challenge she faces is that the price of rice crops is not high at the moment and her farm has no irrigation so she is dependent on the rain. To ensure a good harvest of her rice and watermelons, Mrs Sokun has requested a 36 month loan in order to purchase good quality seeds, pesticide and weed killer, cover the cost of ploughing her land and to cover the cost of buying a water pipe and getting water to her land during the dry season.
