This is a group loan for Titukuke women group based in Nyimba district Eastern part of Zambia. The group has a membership of 21 women aged between 20 and 55. Most of the women in this group are married, some widowed and others single. These women run small scale businesses with the primary objective of uplifting their living conditions in their homes. They run small businesses like grocery and market stalls. They are helped to run their businesses by family members. The group is requesting for its twelfth loan after successfully repaying their previous loans. They will use the loan to expand their businesses. They source their products from local farmers and big markets outside Nyimba district. Their market is mainly to the locals and travelers.
One member of the group is Aliness Lungu. She is 38 years old, married with four children. Her husband is a farmer. She runs a small grocery stall selling washing paste, batteries and bathing soap. She has been doing this business for five years now. She is requesting for this loan to order more items for her stall like cooking oil, sugar, candle and assorted soft drinks. She started her business with the hope of helping her husband provide for the family. Since she started getting loans, Aliness has seen significant changes as her business is growing and has bought household goods. As a woman she is happy to contribute to the financial well being of her family.
