Loan description:
Mrs. Chanthy is 51 years old and she has five children, aged between 6 and 24 years old. Her two youngest are at school. She and her husband have been farmers for over 20 years. At the moment they grow maize on a 15 hectare farm which they harvest twice a year. They produce around five tons per hectare to sell on to the middleman. They also hire 30 villagers to assist them in harvesting the crops. Each of them could earn $5 a day from this work. To ensure that they can continue to farm their maize as in previous years, they have applied for a 12 month loan in order to purchase good quality seeds, pesticide, weed killer, to pay ploughing costs (one hectare costs $50) as well as to cover on labour costs.
