This is a group loan for the Progress Chipegu women group based in Mazabuka district of Southern part of Zambia. The group has a membership of 13, aged between 23 and 52 years old. Some of the women in the group are married, some divorced and others widowed. These women run small scale businesses with the primary objective of uplifting their living conditions in their homes. They run small businesses like grocery and market stalls. The group is requesting for its second loan after successfully repaying first loan. They will use the loan to top on their capital and expand their businesses.
Royne Mweemba is a member of this group. She is 42 years old, married to a business man and has seven children and seven orphans who are all in school. Royne runs a market stall selling assorted vegetables in the main market of her community. She has been doing this business for 17 years now. Family members help her run the business. She will use her share of the loan to top up her capital and expand her business. She will use the money to order eggs and assorted vegetables for he stall. She started her business with the hope of helping her husband provide for the family. Her ambition is to build a family house through the profits generated. Since she started getting loans from MLF Royne has seen significant changes as her business is growing and has bought household goods. As a woman she is happy to contribute to the financial well-being of her family.
