The Chankhonzi Group is a group of 19 women based in Kasungu. The women are aged between 22 and 60 years. Their marital statuses are married , divorced and widowed. Their husbands run small businesses. They have children who depend on them and the majority of these children go to school. These women run various small businesses such as selling fish, groceries, second hand clothes, and snacks etc. They have requested this loan to invest in their businesses to make them more vibrant. They started the businesses to be able to pay for their children's school fees, and to provide food and clothes for their families.
Vayness Mbewe is 24 years old. She is married with 2 children who depend on her. Vayness owns a grocery business. She would like to use this loan to buy more groceries, fish and rice to stock up her business. She started the business to be able to provide food and clothing for her family. She works by the side of the road and has been running her business for eight years. Currently, her husband helps with the activities of the business. She plans to open a much bigger grocery business and also build a house for her family. The previous loans have enabled her to reduce the levels of poverty in her home and she has also bought a car.
