Timeke woman credit group has a membership of 24 women aged between 18 and 65. Some of the women in this group are married, some divorced and others widowed. These women have children who go to school. The women of the Timeke group run small scale business to support their families and work their way out of poverty. They source their products from booth near markets and larger markets out of their town. They sale products like groceries, vegetables, clothes, beans and beef. This is their third loan they are requesting. The group receives business management training skills which help them manage their businesses and they are now ready to request for their first loan.
Esther Gondwe a member of this group runs a market stall selling different types of beans. Her ambition is to buy a piece of land where she will build a family house. She is 47 years old and married to a businessman. They have 2 children together and all their children are in school. She is requesting for this loan to expand her business. She will use the money to order beans and kapenta (small fish) She started her business with the hope of helping her husband meet the daily needs of their family. She runs the business with the help of her husband. She has had her business for over 13 years. She started this business because of the availability of the market and it’s easy to manage. In future she plans to open another grocery shop at a nearby village. As a woman she is happy to be empowered financially as she does not depend on her husband for everything.
