Loan description:

Yao Akakpo Dossou, 41, is married with three young children, aged between 5 and 11. They all attend school. Yao is a trained electrician, whilst his wife works as a midwife in a hospital in Atakpamé. When he was young, he learnt the skill of electrical rewinding from a trained professional and qualified as a master electrical rewinder. He became self-employed in 2007 and opened a stall at the Agbo crossroads, from which he sells materials for electricians and rewinders. He sources his stock locally in Atakpamé. This year, Yao registered with the microfinance institution WAGES and has requested a loan of 400,000 West African francs, repayable over 12 months. This loan will enable him to purchase electrical wires, reels, pipes and various other spare parts to sell in his shop, as well as allowing him to offer more services. Yao hopes to transform his stall into a large workshop and intends to employ many apprentices, with whom he can share the experiences and skills he has acquired as a master electrical rewinder.
