Loan description:

Enyonam Akouvi Kowuvi, 38, is married with five children, and lives with her family in the town of Woudou. Her children are aged between 2 and 18 years old, only three of them currently attend school. While Akouvi’s husband works as a manager, she sells a variety of second hand bags, ranging from school bags to travel bags, and even some imported from Europe and the United States. These bags tend to sell well as buyers like their strength and hard-wearing quality. Akouvi was working in the honey trade until 2007, but she then decided to change direction, and ventured into the second-hand bag trade. This seems to have been a good decision as her business is prospering. However, Akouvi would like to see it develop even further, and this is where she requires financial support from the microfinance institution WAGES. Akouvi has been working in partnership with WAGES for the last year and a half in order to realise her ambitions. She has already taken out a loan of 250,000 West African francs, and she is now requesting a further loan of 300,000 francs over 12 months. She plans to use this money to purchase a large number of bags, thereby increasing her stock levels. She hopes to use the profits generated from her business to contribute more to her family’s living costs.
