Nak

Nak Yat and her husband Hai Han are farmers and live in Dong Mea village, Prenorin commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang province. They do not have children yet. Nak has been a member of Ek Phnom Credit Union since 2006. They own three hectares of rice paddy, located about two kilometres from their home. They generally sell rice to traders, rather than directly to the rice miller. After harvesting the rice, they grow watermelons, cucumbers, and aubergines on the same land. The traders buy the watermelons and cucumbers, but not the aubergines. Instead, Nak has to sell the aubergines at Prektachreng Market which is about seven kilometres from where they live. Additionally, they raise livestock, at the moment they have three cows. Nak has sought a loan from the credit union in order to buy diesel for their hand tractor and seeds. She intends to repay the loan over ten months. Nak wants to open a general store in another province in the future.
