Mom Heng is 45 years old and married with five children. The eldest daughter is 24 years old and the third daughter is 19 years old. They are married and have their own separate households. The other two elder sons are workers, while the very youngest son is just two years old. Mom lives in Korkos village, Otaki commune, Thmor Korl district, Battambang province. Mom has been working as a farmer for the past two years. Mom husband’s, Ea Ki who is 47 years old, has been a Khmer traditional singer and musician for almost 25 years. He can play many kinds of Khmer traditional instruments including the drum, Tro, and Takhe which is a type of Khmer guitar in the shape of a crocodile - one of the photographs shows these instruments. He performs at traditional Khmer ceremonies and weddings. This income is useful but tends to be seasonal and irregular. Mom and her husband do not own their own rice paddy, but instead they rent two hectares of rice paddy to grow rice. The rent is paid in kind, 600 kilograms per hectare. They also raise cattle, four cows to be precise which they eventually sell. Mom is a member of the Chrey Credit Union and sought a loan in order to buy fertilizer and pay for ploughing with a tractor. She intends to repay the loan over eight months.
