Loan description:
Generosa Pantuan is a 50 year old married woman who lives in Cebu province. She runs a small moving shop that focuses on selling bargain-priced clothing that are locally known as “ukay-ukay”. She acquires all her stock in bulk from a local trader and sell the products to her customers at a small mark-up price. She places all the clothes inside several large bags in order to easily transport them to places where people gather such as the public market, schools and parks. After removing the items from the bags, customers can easily choose from her offerings. The blouses, shorts, skirts, trousers and shirts she sells come in varying sizes, designs and colours. She normally re-stocks weekly in order to maintain a good volume of products. She believes that the larger the number of products she offers to people, the more sales she can earn. This has been her business for the past three years. The microfinance organisation, First Consolidated Cooperative, has given her a small loan worth $263 (10,000 Philippine pesos) in order to help her acquire larger volumes of clothes and other garments. Through this, she can increase her sales while supplying proper and affordable clothing products to people in the local area. She wants to save money to assist with the educational needs of her children. She intends to repay the loan over a period of twelve months.
