Agnes is 32 years old. She is married and has two children who are enrolled in school. She herself did not have the opportunity to finish basic education. Over the years she has become a skilfull trader. She has a well known convenience shop in her area where she sells products such as: powdered and condensed milk, tinned tomatoes, sardines, pasta, rice, dried broad beans, biscuits, sweets, cakes, cassava flour, oil and fruit. She also sells soap, insecticide, matches. Agnes is very friendly and she has managed to develop a significant number of customers. Agnes replenishes her stock at the Cotonou market. Having been a loyal customer microfinance institution ACFB for some time, she is at present applying for a loan worth 700,000 FCFA. She will use it to replenish her varied stock. “The profits will be used to increase her capital and also to help her husband with the household expenses”, she said.

Original text in French: A 32 ans, Agnès est mariée et mère de deux (02) enfants tous scolarisés. Ayant abandonné l’école en classe du CM2, elle est devenue dans sa région une grande commerçante de divers produits tels que : lait en poudre et concentré, tomate en boîte, sardines, sucre, savon, insecticide, allumettes, huile, pâte alimentaire, riz, maïs, haricot, biscuits, bonbons, galettes, farine de manioc, fruits…etc. Etant une très bonne femme accueillante, Agnès dispose actuellement d’une clientèle très importante. Elle s’approvisionne sur le marché international de Cotonou. Bénéficiaire des produits de l’ACFB depuis plusieurs années, le présent prêt d’un montant de 700.000FCFA consisterait à s’approvisionner en produits divers. Le profit tiré de ce commerce m’aidera à augmenter mon capital et aussi à aider mon mari dans les charges du ménage dit-elle.
