Adidjatou Laya is 38 years old. She is married to a herdsman and they have 5 children, 3 of whom are enrolled in school. Adidjatou used to be a retailer but she left this activity because of poor sales. Adidjatou then engaged in raising livestock and she has been in this activity for 10 years. She raises cows, oxen and goats. Her husband helps her to manage this activity, he looks after her animals. Adidjatou hires two employees and their main activity is to prepare feed for the cattle. Besides raising livestock, Adidjatou produces and sells cheese made from cow's milk. Part of cow's milk used for cheese production is from her own cattle but she also buys milk at the Savalon and Kétou markets. She buys the cattle at the Bembèrèkè market, known for this activity. Her clientele for the meat and cheese she produces are restaurateurs and people organising feasts and celebrations but mainly large butchers at Pobè market. Adidjatou has already benefited several times from ACFB credits and she has always honoured her commitments. She is now requesting a large loan worth 2,000,000 FCFA repayable over a period of 12 months. The loan would help her to source cattle, specifically 6 cows worth 1,200,000 FCFA. Each cow costs around 200,000 FCFA. She also wants to buy some goats worth 600,000 FCFA. The remaining 200,000 FCFA will be used to supply milk and equipment for cheese making. The profit generated from her trade will help her mainly to increase her working capital. She also wants to use some money for the education of her children and if possible, she would like to start saving to buy land and build a house to rent. In this way, she could ensure income for later in life, she said.
