Loan description:

Seraphine is 40 years old. She has 5 children, all are enrolled in school. Seraphine's main activity is the production of gari, or cassava flour. She manages to get a good income that goes mianly to support her household. Gari is made from cassava through an artisan process that involves several stages. The first step is to peel and ground the cassava, the pulp obtained is then stored for a few days for after which it is pressed and sieved. Finally it is grilled slowly over low heat. Gari is the main staple food in Southern Benin. Seraphine buys cassava in the fields nearby her village and sells her production in the Azonwlissè and Akpadonon markets. Sometimes also at Quando market and to her neighbours in the village. Seraphine has been a customer of the ACFB for nearly 3 years. At present she is requesting a loan of 300,000 FCFA to strengthen her capital and buy a large amount of cassava that will allow her to produce more bags of gari. The profit will help her to take care of her family and especially to cover the children's school fees.
