Loan description:
José María Alulima Benítez is a farmer growing maize and raising chickens and pigs. He is 74 and lives in the rural community of 'La Vega' near the town of Catamayo. He has had 14 children, all of whom are now adults and live separately. Don José mentions that he does not always have a good harvest as much depends upon sufficient rainfall and ensuring that his harvest is not affected by pests. Thankfully, when the harvest is poor he can always rely on the sale of animals for a good income. He recently bought his own house with his savings. He will work on improving the house slowly. Don Jose requested a loan in order to buy fertiliser and pesticide in order to ensure that he has a good harvest. He intends to repay the loan over 12 months.
