Loan description:

Beatrice is a 38 year old woman married to a farmer. They have 3 children, 2 of them at school. Beatrice is a producer of cassava flour or gari. She started this activity when she was 15, taking over her late mother's business. Since then this has been her main source of income. To attract more customers she sells gari to some customers by credit, who settle their debit weekly, monthly or every fortnight. She is pleased with this business activity and model as this has allowed her to help her husband with the school fees for their children. In addition to gari, she also sells cassava and maize. She buys these in the fields around her village and sells most of her production at the Zè or Sedje markets located in her neighbourhood. She has 3 employees who assist with the gari production and sale. Beatrice has been a customer of the microfinance institution ACFB and has received and repaid several loans. This new loan worth 500,000 FCFA will allow her to buy 4 loads of cassava tubercles. “The profit generated by this loan will help me to strengthen the capital by increasing gari production and sale but it will also help my husband with the household expenses” she said. (Please note that Beatrice's picture was taken at the workshop of another women entrepreneur, Colette Nounagnon. Colette has a workshop for her own gari production but often lends her equipment to other women in the village).
