Teresita Aguilar (the lady in yellow shirt) is a 52 year old married woman who lives in the neighbourhood of Butas na Bato which is in the town of Dingalan in Aurora province. She has three children ages 19, 15 and 12 who are all studying in college, high school and elementary levels respectively. Her 54 year old husband, Juanito, is engaged in farming. Teresita is a vendor of fish who delivers her products to her customers and neighbours. She gets her fresh stocks from a trusted supplier in the public market and sells those in per kilo basis. She has been doing her business for almost 15 years and she is happy to give convenience and access to people who do not have time to visit the market because of their busy schedules. Teresita also works as a caretaker of a small beach resort. She is proud that the said resort promotes tourism in their area. During summer, she focuses in maintaining cleanliness and order in the resort because of numerous people who visit the place, but she still makes sure to provide fresh and quality fish products to all her regular customers. The microfinance organisation, Alalay sa Kaunlaran, has been supporting her for the past 10 years. In fact, she has recently received a loan worth $919 (35,000 Philippine pesos) to finance the acquisition of more fish products and to serve more people in the village. She is hopeful that her daily income will increase and she will be able to save for the education of her beloved children. Teresita will repay her loan over six months.
