Ecuador
Loan description:
María Teresa Sarango Narváez requested a loan in order to buy chicks and feed for the birds. She is 34 and married with two children aged 12 and 14 respectively, both attend school. Doña María lives in the district of Cuinuma in the town of Cariamanga. Her husband is a builder. Señora María emigrated to Spain several years ago but returned to Ecuador when the economic situation there worsened and unemployment rose. Many Ecuadorians have done the same in the last couple of years. Doña María has a business selling eggs that her hens produce. Because all her hens are free range and enjoy a natural diet, she receives a higher price for her eggs, around 50 cents per egg. Competitors who produce eggs from caged hens receive 10-15 cents per egg. The loan is for ten months.
Loan added: 25 April 2013
