Carmelita Reguyal is 40 years old and has two children aged 4 and 11. Her 39 year old husband, Darwin, is a local public servant. The family lives in Nueva Ecija province. For the past 11 years, Carmelita has operated a store selling different kinds of consumable merchandise such as hygienic products, biscuits, bread, snacks, powdered drink, sodas and canned. For more than one year, she has been a member of the microfinance organisation Alalay sa Kaunlaran and has already completed several loan cycles. She is now requesting a new loan of $525 (20,000 Philippine pesos) to purchase a greater variety of stock for her shop. Carmelita has promised to repay this over a six month period. She hopes to enlarge her shop someday.
