Loan description:

Jasmin Guevarra is 42 year old and married to Reynaldo who is a 39 year old farmer. She lives in the neighbourhood of Polilio which is in the town of Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija province. She provides supplementary income to her family through a progressing pig raising business that she started to operate more than 10 years ago. She simply started by taking care of two piglets in her backyard and with her husband’s assistance, she has managed to establish a spacious pig pen where she now raises a number of pigs and piglets. Large pigs are placed in separate partitions in a way that they can move comfortably while the piglets are placed in one large area. She regularly provides food and water to the animals as well as regularly cleans the pens to avoid the spread of viral infections. She is able to sell her fully grown pigs to local traders in the public market. She has recently sought the financial assistance of the microfinance organisation, Alalay sa Kaunlaran, by availing a loan amounting to $1050 (40,000 Philippine pesos). The loan is for the acquisition of animal feed and vitamins which shall ensure the good health of her pigs. She wishes to increase her income so she can save and build additional pens to accommodate more pigs. The loan is repayable over a term of twelve months.
