Cambodia
Loan description:
Song Krey is 35 years old and farms rice on around two hectares of rice paddy. The crops she produces on her land (around two tonnes per hectare) she sells to a local trader. After she has harvested her crops, Song and her husband also work for other villagers along the Cambodian-Thai border chopping cassava and picking maize. They can earn around $5 a day doing this, which provides another source of income for their household. To enable them to prepare and farm their rice crops regularly every year, Song has applied for a twelve month loan in order to pay for ploughing, to buy insecticide, weed killer and fertiliser, and to pay for renting land (one hectare costs around $100).
