Roeurt Dam is 49 years old and lives in Sangke district, which is in Battambang province. Roeurt and her husband farm four hectares of rice paddy, which produces around three tonnes of rice per hectare which they sell to a local trader. To earn extra income for their household they have launched another business selling vegetables from a market stall near their home. Roeurt sells a variety of vegetables including cabbages, cauliflowers, cucumbers and pak choi. She also sells fish and pork occasionally. Roeurt's vegetable stall generates around $50 a day revenue, which provides a great source of income for her household. Since her funds are limited at the moment, she has applied for a twelve month loan to create a healthier working capital and enable her to purchase new stock in bulk and to buy a motorcycle so she can travel easily to pick up her stock. She will use the rest of the loan to cover some of their farming costs such as buying fertilizer, insecticide & diesel for their tractor.
