Wilson Armijos is a farmer from the 'barrio' of 'La Era' in the parish of Malacatos. He is 31 and single. He inherited land to farm from his father and has been farming since he was 15. He grows mainly peppers and maize. He has also rented additional land to plant from a neighbour and also works as an agricultural day labourer on other local farms when opportunities arise. He requested a loan in order to finance the purchase of fungicides to protect his crop from infestations. There is always a risk that he might lose a significant part of the harvest to pests. He will also use part of the loan to contract day labourers to assist him in ploughing and preparing the land - this is often necessary as a great deal of work has to be completed in a short space of time. He lives with and looks after his mother.
