Brem Ek is 57 years old and married with three children, who are aged between 24 and 19 years old. All of her children now have their own jobs. Brem and her family live in a village in the Sangke district of Battambang province. Brem and her husband run a business selling vegetables at the local market and they have been doing this for the past 20 years. They can make around $5 a day doing this. They sell vegetable such as long yard beans, cucumbers and Chinese cabbages all of which grow in their village. To improve their living standards they have applied for a ten month loan in order to purchase wood, concrete columns and zinc panels to rebuild their home and to pay for a carpenter to carry out the work.
