Loan description:
Sany Thes is 53 years old and married with five children. Her children are aged between 19 and 32 years old and they all have their own jobs. Sany and her family live in a village in the Sangke district of Battambang province. Sany and her husband farm rice on around 20 hectares and they are able to produce both dry and wet season rice on this land. In addition to producing rice, Sany and her husband also work as middlemen buying and selling rice in their village. Sany and her husband go from farm to farm buying rice and then selling it to local traders. Since they started this additional business, their family's income has been much better and they can earn around $150 to $200 a day doing this. They use their own tractor to deliver the rice (usually around ten tonnes each time) and they hire villagers (between four and ten people) to help them load and unload the rice. While they have a shortage of capital, Sany and her husband have applied for an eighteen month loan to enable them to buy more rice and help generate a healthier working capital. They also aim to purchase three threshing machines over the next few years so they can start offering threshing services to local farmers too.
