Chanthou Thuy is 27 years old and married with two sons who are two and five years old. Chanthou and her family live in a village in the Thmor Korl district of Battambang province. Chanthou and her husband produce rice on five hectares of rice paddy. They grow dry season rice, which produces around three tonnes per hectare. However, they also have another plot of land on which they produce wet season rice, which provides another source of income for their family. To generate a sufficient income from their rice farming they have sought a ten month loan in order to purchase fertiliser, diesel for their tractor and to cover the cost of harvesting. They also rent a threshing machine, which costs $80 per hectare.
