Sophan Nob is 33 years and married to Ms. Chy (shown in the photograph). Sophan and Chy have only one child who is six years and currently at school. They live in Thmor Korl district, which is in Battambang province. They cultivate rice on four hectares of land and they are able to produce both dry and wet season rice. They produce approximately three tonnes of rice per hectare. Six years ago they were able to buy a hand tractor and this has helped to reduce the costs of preparing and harvesting their land. To make sure their farm is productive this year while their working capital is limited they have applied for a ten month loan in order to buy diesel for their tractor, insecticide, weed killer and fertiliser.
