Loan description:
Rith Chok is 29 years old and married with two children, who are 5 and 2 years old. Her five year old is now at school. Rith and her family live in Thmor Korl district in Battambang province. Rith and her husband grow rice on around five hectares of land, which yields around three tonnes per hectare. They are able to grow on their land twice a year since they can produce dry season rice, which only takes three months to cultivate. A local trader buys their rice directly from their farm. Seven years ago they were able to purchase a tractor, which has greatly reduced the time it takes for them to prepare their land allowing them to farm on time. To enable them to increase their income from their rice farming they have decided to ask for a ten month loan in order to purchase diesel for their walking tractor to plough their land, diesel for their water pump, insecticide, weed killer and fertilizer. They will use their profits to cover their daily expenses and prepare their land again for farming.
