Sean Soy is 56 years old and married to Ms Hoeurm (who is shown in the photographs). They have five children, who are aged between 14 and 25 years old and only their two younger children are still at school. Presently they live in Ek Phnom district, which is in Battambang province. They farm around eight hectares of land and get around three tonnes per hectare. They also have the chance to produce rice twice a year so this can provide a great source of income for their household. In addition to rice farming they also grow watermelons on another piece of land, which is around one more hectare. To prepare their land to produce their rice and watermelons they have applied for a ten month loan in order to purchase watermelon seeds, insecticide, weed killer, diesel for their hand tractor and water pump and to pay for harvesting.
